Cardinal Health Launches Pyxis ParAssistT Handheld Inventory Management System
06/10/2005

SAN DIEGO, June 10, 2005 - Cardinal Health, Inc. (NYSE: CAH), the leading provider of products and services supporting the health care industry, today launched the Pyxis ParAssist™ handheld inventory management system in conjunction with the next version of its Pyxis® supply product line.

The Pyxis ParAssist™ system helps manage inventory at remote supply locations by collecting data using handheld bar code scanners. This information is stored with data from other Pyxis® supply products, such as the Pyxis SupplyStation® secure inventory management system and the Pyxis JITrBUD™ wireless open-access inventory management system, at the Pyxis SupplyCenter™ console server. With information for all supply locations stored in one central repository, hospitals can increase inventory accuracy, refill efficiency and proactive management of par levels.

“We’ve been able to change from manual to electronic processes in par count areas, which has transformed our logistics processes,” said Scott Page, director of logistics for Oregon Health and Science University. “With the Pyxis ParAssist™ system, we reduced on-hand inventory by approximately $93,000 in the first two months and an average of 250 fewer line items per day were picked through the warehouse. We’ve also improved communication between surgery and the warehouse, increased data entry accuracy and reduced labor workload.”

“Our customers needed a solution to automate inventory processes for areas not traditionally managed by their Pyxis SupplyStation® systems,” said Dwight Winstead, president and chief operating officer of the Clinical Technologies and Services segment of Cardinal Health. “With the release of the Pyxis ParAssist™ system and the next version of our Pyxis® supply product line, hospitals can effectively manage all supplies with Pyxis® products.”
