Three New Oncology Practices Sign Agreements with Cardinal Health Specialty Solutions' VitalSource Group Purchasing Organization
06/25/2012

DUBLIN, Ohio -- June 25, 2012 -- Cardinal Health Specialty Solutions today announced that three new community oncology practices – Birmingham Hematology and Oncology Associates (BHOA) in Birmingham, Ala.; Michigan Healthcare Professionals, P.C. in Michigan; and California Cancer Associates for Research and Excellence (cCARE) in Fresno, Calif. – have selected VitalSourceTM GPO as their group purchasing organization for infused oncology and other specialty medications.

Through these new agreements, VitalSource GPO will provide these three large oncology groups with competitive pricing, rebates and access to reliable, on-time delivery for life-saving chemotherapy, biologic and supportive care medications.

For more than 25 years, BHOA’s team of 16 board-certified physicians has provided high-quality cancer care services to patients throughout central Alabama.

At its state-of-the-art campus in Fresno, Calif., and at several offices in San Diego, Calif., (including a new radiation center opening at the end of 2012), cCARE’s extensive team of board-certified oncologists, hematologists and nurses offer a wide range of innovative cancer and blood disorder services to patients throughout central and southern California.

Michigan Healthcare Professionals, P.C. is a newly formed multi-location physician group practice that includes Oakland Medical Group and Hematology & Oncology Consultants.  This group currently provides care to cancer patients in five locations throughout southeastern Michigan.

“VitalSource is excited to provide each of these well-respected oncology groups with the support services they need to continue to run successful, efficient businesses that provide patients with access to quality, local, convenient cancer care,” said Gary Ingold, vice president and general manager of Cardinal Health Specialty Solutions. “We look forward to continuing to provide deep clinical and business expertise to help these new VitalSource members thrive in today’s challenging environment.”

These new VitalSource customers will have access to the following services:

·         Financial Management Solutions to help practices optimize their businesses by maximizing revenue and improving operational efficiency.  The centerpiece of these solutions is the eobONE® Reimbursement Solution, a proprietary, Web-based practice efficiency platform that improves revenue cycle management and medication reimbursements.

Experts from Cardinal Health Specialty Solutions can also review medication-use patterns and recommend more cost-effective therapeutic substitutions that are clinically proven to be of equal or greater efficacy.

·         Time Management Solutions that alleviate the burden of excessive paperwork and pressures practices face every day, by offering resources like ready-to-use clinical support toolkits, a drug shortage resource center and drug information services that save practices both time and money.

·         Publications and Education that provide access to the latest and most relevant clinical news, via webcasts and e-newsletters that share expert insight on trends in the community oncology industry. Members also receive monthly portfolio updates, summarizing changes in contracts, drug formulations and pricing.
