Cardinal Health Introduces New, Retail-Style Specialty Catalogs to Make it Easier for Physicians’ Offices to Order Medical Supplies
05/04/2010

Company’s New Diabetes Care, Cardiology, OBGYN and Pediatric Medical Supply Catalogs Feature Engaging, Easy-to-Navigate Design That Simplifies Ordering Process

DUBLIN, Ohio, May 4, 2010 — Cardinal Health recently introduced a new suite of specialty catalogs that make it easier for physician’s offices that specialize in Cardiology, Obstetrics, Pediatric or Diabetes Care to find and order the medical supplies they use most.

Medical supply distributors have for years provided physicians’ offices with printed catalogs containing photos and ordering information for thousands of medical supplies. While comprehensive, these catalogs often contain thousands of products that specialty physician practices rarely or never use. And, the high number of products listed in the catalogs often limits how much space can be dedicated to highlighting product photos and attributes that help customers make informed purchasing decisions.

Because they only carry products that are of interest to each specific specialty, Cardinal Health’s new specialty catalogs contain far fewer pages for customers to browse through and provide more space for product photos and detailed product information.

“Even though we’re in the business-to-business space, we know that the office managers and physicians we serve are also consumers. They’re accustomed to well-designed, easy-to-navigate and engaging marketing and sales materials from their favorite retailers,” said Kenny Wilson, senior vice president and general manager of Cardinal Health’s Ambulatory Care business. “By introducing a retail feel and better information structure to our new specialty catalogs, our goal is to make it quicker, easier, and more enjoyable for our customers to find and order the products they need.”

For example, the company’s new Diabetes Care catalog organizes products to align with the American Diabetes Association’s standards of diabetes care. It explains where customers can find products that will help them conduct Diabetes, glucose, blood pressure and lipid testing, and also groups products together that help Diabetes specialists provide preventive eye, kidney, foot and flu care.

Because a high percentage of patients with Diabetes are also overweight or obese, Cardinal Health’s new Diabetes Care Catalog also provides a selection of barrier-free and bariatric equipment that can enhance the exam room experience for larger patients.

Key features of Cardinal Health’s new specialty catalogs include:

  • Streamlined, focused product selection, containing only the products of interest to physician’s offices that specialize in Cardiology, Obstetrics, Pediatric or Diabetes Care.
  • Larger product photos, larger font for product descriptions and increased white space to enable easier reading and product selection.
  • Simplified bar code ordering – the new specialty catalogs conveniently place bar codes next to each product to further simplify the ordering process. Customers who use the company’s OrderConnect® bar code scanning system or its ParConnect® inventory management system simply need to scan the catalog bar codes, upload the items into cardinalhealth.com, review and submit their orders.
  • Frequently used bar code ordering – the new catalogs also feature pages where users can place bar code stickers for their most frequently used products, for expedited ordering.
  • Easy-to-find product alternatives – including a broad selection of branded products and private label products.
