Cardinal Health Names Former Acting Deputy U.S. Attorney General Craig S. Morford to Chief Compliance Officer Post
03/18/2008

DUBLIN, Ohio, March 18, 2008 — Cardinal Health, a global provider of products and services that improve the safety and productivity of health care, today announced the appointment of former Acting Deputy U.S. Attorney General Craig S. Morford as the company’s chief compliance officer, a newly expanded position.

Morford, 49, has had a distinguished career of more than 20 years in public service with the Department of Justice, including serving as U.S. attorney in Detroit and Nashville. In 2007, he was appointed by President Bush as acting deputy attorney general, the second highest ranking official in the Department of Justice, overseeing more than 100,000 employees including 93 U.S. attorney offices, and agencies that include the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.  He will join Cardinal Health on May 5.

At Cardinal Health, he will be responsible for ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations that govern the company’s products, services and operations.  This newly expanded role will focus on regulatory, environmental health and safety compliance, as well as ethics and enterprise risk management.  Morford will report jointly to R. Kerry Clark, chairman and CEO of Cardinal Health, and the chair of the audit committee of the company’s board of directors.

“We are extremely pleased to have another leader of Craig’s caliber join the Cardinal Health management team,” Clark said.  “He brings deep expertise with regulatory agencies, a strong compliance background and a reputation for upholding the highest standards of ethics and integrity.”

Daniel J. Walsh, 52, was the architect of the Cardinal Health ethics and compliance department and will leave the company after a transition period to pursue other interests.  Walsh joined Cardinal Health in May 2005 and put in place programs that incorporated best practices in standards of business conduct, case management, employee education, policy formulation and measurement.

“Dan’s leadership laid a strong foundation for us by formalizing many of our ethics and compliance policies and structures, and by providing excellent counsel to management and our board,” Clark said.

Morford spent 15 years of his career prosecuting high-profile corruption and organized crime cases in Ohio.  He began his career as a trial attorney specializing in tax litigation for the Internal Revenue Service’s Office of Chief Counsel.  He has received numerous awards and recognition for his work, including being named the Most Outstanding Assistant United States Attorney in the Nation in 2005, a Distinguished Service Award from the Attorney General in 2003 and two awards for superior performance by the Attorney General in 1996 and 2000.  In 1999, the Cleveland branch of the FBI named him Attorney of the Year.

Morford received his juris doctorate from Valparaiso University’s School of Law and bachelor’s degree in Economics from Hope College.
