DUBLIN, Ohio, April 9, 2008 — Cardinal Health, a global provider of products and services that improve the safety and productivity of health care, today announced a three-year agreement with TCGRx to offer automated pharmaceutical storage and dispensing systems that improve operational efficiency and dispensing accuracy for long term care pharmacies.
TCGRx solutions include automated oral solid packaging as well as unique shelving and drawer systems that store, count and package pharmaceuticals into patient specific doses and pre-packaged formats. The systems can reduce storage space by up to 50 percent and improve pharmaceutical inventory management through sophisticated tracking and reporting that allow for streamlined ordering when inventory levels reach pre-defined levels.
“By making the full line of TCGRx products available to our long term care customers, Cardinal Health can continue to provide pharmacies with the technologies they need to automate counting and packaging, optimize inventory for their entire formulary and reduce storage space for pharmaceuticals,” said Law Burks, vice president marketing management, Healthcare Supply Chain Services-Pharmaceuticals for Cardinal Health. “The systems will help improve patient safety through more accurate dispensing and patient specific packaging that is easier to read and administer, which leads to improved compliance.”
TCGRx systems use barcode verification during stocking and dispensing, which greatly reduces the opportunity for medication errors. Through automated features, such as counting and staging, pharmacists and technicians have more time to consult with patients and focus on the accuracy of medications being dispensed. Additionally, the systems ability to dispense pharmaceuticals in unit-dose, bar coded packaging helps ensure proper administration at the point of care.
“By partnering with Cardinal Health, TCGRx can expand our reach into long term care facilities that will benefit from greater production capacity while maintaining accuracy,” said David Bartel, vice president of sales for TCGRx. “Our shared focus to improve patient safety and pharmacy efficiency makes this partnership a unique combination of technology, service and dedication to improve the delivery of health care.”
