Cardinal Health Earns Top Ranking in Inaugural KLAS Report
05/15/2007

DUBLIN, Ohio, May 15, 2007 — Cardinal Health, a global provider of products and services that improve the safety and productivity of health care, has received the number one ranking in the first-ever Smart Pump report from KLAS Enterprises, published March 2007.

KLAS independently monitors vendor performance through the active participation of thousands of health-care organizations. KLAS uses a stringent methodology to ensure all data and ratings are accurate and impartial.

“KLAS wanted to extend our research into the area of smart IV pumps, because a majority of the most harmful medication errors are IV-related,” said Jason Hess, director of research, Clinical Ancillary at KLAS. “Our first study in this area found that providers across the country rate Cardinal Health over the other vendors rated in this report.”

The Alaris® System with Guardrails® Suite of safety software is the only infusion safety platform designed as a comprehensive system to protect all types of infusions. The system combines dose error reduction software, a bedside computer, large volume pumps, syringe pumps and patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) pumps, as well as continuous respiratory monitoring and bar code identification capabilities onto a single platform. Wireless connectivity capabilities also enable clinicians to transmit data automatically from the Alaris® System to existing clinical information systems and electronic patient records.

“Part of the prestige of the KLAS report ranking is knowing that clinical users of the technology provide their candid input,” said Carol Zilm, president of Medication Technologies for Cardinal Health. “Since introducing the market’s first smart infusion pump in 2001, we’ve worked hard to develop new innovations that help our hospital customers stay at the cutting edge of IV safety.”
