DUBLIN, Ohio, Oct. 3, 2007 — Cardinal Health, a global provider of products and services that improve the safety and productivity of health care, today began construction on a $50 million, 250,000 square foot expansion at the company’s headquarters here.
The new West Campus facility will be home to the Healthcare Supply Chain Services sector, a $74 billion business that was formed through the combination of the company’s pharmaceutical and medical products supply chain businesses.
“Cardinal Health is an inspiring example of Ohio’s entrepreneurial spirit,” said Gov. Ted Strickland at a groundbreaking ceremony held today. “Growing from a regional food distributor in 1971 to a global health-care leader and the nation’s 19th largest company today, Cardinal Health is showing the way to Ohio’s economic renaissance.”
Cardinal Health, the largest company in Ohio by revenue, employs nearly 3,500 people across the state, including 2,700 in Central Ohio. With the completion of the West Campus facility, Cardinal Health will add more than 700 additional jobs in Dublin.
“This project was born from our vision to create a world-class health care supply chain business, but it wouldn’t have been possible without the support from the state of Ohio and City of Dublin, “ said R. Kerry Clark, CEO of Cardinal Health. “The collaboration between our local and state governments has allowed Cardinal Health to continue to grow here at home in Dublin, Ohio.”
Cardinal Health will also be seeking LEED certification for the West Campus facility. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council and is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. Cardinal Health’s West Campus will be the first facility in Dublin to receive LEED certification.
In addition to LEED certification, the West Campus facility will bring a variety of employee benefits. The new building will have its own cafeteria, a coffee shop and a fitness center. The interior layout will feature a progressive open office environment designed to foster collaboration among employees and teams. The building is expected to be completed in spring 2009.
Cardinal Health selected Dublin-based Bird Houk Collaborative as the lead architect, Perkins+Will for interior design and Danis Building Construction Company as the construction contractor for the project.
