DUBLIN, Ohio, Feb. 2, 2006 - Cardinal Health, Inc. (NYSE:CAH), the leading provider of products and services supporting the health-care industry, announced today that Ivan K. Fong, the company’s executive vice president and chief legal officer, will be honored by the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF) for his contributions to promoting social justice and diversity and for outstanding personal and professional achievements as one of the most influential Asian American lawyers in the United States.
Presented tonight at AALDEF’s annual Lunar New Year Gala in New York, Fong will receive the Justice in Action award, the organization’s highest recognition. Since 1974, AALDEF has honored exceptional individuals who have paved the way for racial justice and equality.
Fong has advanced these ideals as an advocate of pro bono work, particularly among in-house corporate counsel, and as one of the few Asian Americans who are the chief legal officers of Fortune 500 companies. He is also a leader of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association and a recent appointee to Cardinal Health’s Corporate Diversity and Inclusion Council. Cardinal Health’s diversity and inclusion strategy involves several key initiatives, including a supplier diversity program, recruitment and training programs, employee mentoring, and diversity and inclusion awareness.
Fong has been previously recognized for his efforts by the Asian American Bar Association of New York, the Asian American Bar Association of the San Francisco Bay Area, and the Organization of Chinese Americans.
“Ivan is a seasoned leader with uncompromising standards and we are proud to have him as part of Cardinal Health’s management team,” said Robert D. Walter, chairman and chief executive officer of Cardinal Health. “As a company, Cardinal Health shares Ivan’s vision through the longstanding support we have provided in our communities and by fostering diversity and inclusion within our workforce and among our suppliers.”
