Cardinal Health Increases Capacity For Proprietary Child-resistant Pharmaceutical Packaging System
04/25/2006

Somerset, N.J., April 24, 2006 - Cardinal Health, the leading provider of products and services supporting the health care industry, has expanded capacity for its DelStrip™ Unit-Dose Delivery System (UDDS), a proprietary method of packaging oral medicine in thin film strips.

DelStrip™ UDDS is the first and only child-resistant proprietary oral thin film strip on the market and continues to attract new customers for its innovative portability, low cost production and convenient dosing for pediatric through geriatric patients.  This novel delivery system gives pharmaceutical manufacturers another option to further differentiate their products.

“Thin film strip formulations are a unique and novel way for pharmaceutical companies to get their compounds to market,” said Michael Bergey, vice president of Business Development for the Packaging Services Group of Cardinal Health. To support the anticipated growth of this dosage form, Cardinal Health has commercialized its proprietary DelStrip™ technology for thin film strips. In a world where child resistant and senior friendly unit dose packaging is almost always a requirement, this formulation and delivery system combination will help pharmaceutical manufacturers deliver products in a unique and convenient format for patients of all ages.”

According to SafeKids Worldwide®, from 2001-2003, more than 53,000 children ages 4 and under were treated in hospital emergency departments each year after swallowing medications not intended for them or given in error.

The DelStrip™ technology enables the convenience of thin film strip pharmaceuticals with the added safety of child resistant packaging. DelStrip™ technology also allows for senior-friendly packaging for thin film strips.

Cardinal Health is the world’s largest contract packager of unit-dose packaging solutions.
