Walsh to the new post of executive vice president and chief ethics and compliance officer, reporting to both Robert D. Walter, chairman and chief executive officer, and the audit committee of Cardinal Health's board.

Since 2003, Walsh, 49, has been vice president and chief compliance officer at the Atlanta-based Scientific-Atlanta, Inc., where he was responsible for the creation and oversight of a broad corporate compliance program incorporating best practices in education, policy, hotline administration and compliance monitoring.

"Cardinal Health has longstanding structures in place to promote compliance, but Dan's appointment underlines our commitment to the highest standards of ethics, integrity and compliance," said Walter. "The exemplary work he has done throughout his career will serve as a model for us."

From 1993 to 2003, Walsh was corporate compliance officer serving in the New York, London and Washington, D.C. offices of Smiths Group PLC, a global provider of medical, industrial and aerospace products. From 1986 to 1993, he was a director and senior manager in the management consulting division of PricewaterhouseCoopers' New York and Washington, D.C. offices. Earlier, he held compliance and auditing positions at the Loral Corporation and for the U.S. Department of Defense.

Walsh earned a Master of Business Administration degree in executive management from New York's St. John's University and is licensed in New York as a certified public accountant.
