Cardinal Health opens Advanced Therapy Innovation Center in La Vergne, Tennessee

New space supports advanced therapy solutions capabilities and dedication to life-saving treatments

Cardinal Health last week celebrated the opening of its new Advanced Therapy Innovation Center. This new 8,000 square-foot space, located in a 172,000 square-foot Cardinal Health distribution center in La Vergne, Tennessee, provides the infrastructure and capacity to handle the logistical challenges associated with cell and gene therapies, highlighting Cardinal Health’s industry-leading capabilities in the cell and gene commercialization process.

“The opening of this new center is a testament to the growth we have seen with cell and gene therapies and the promise of their potential to impact patients,” said Fran Gregory, VP, Emerging Therapies. “Our investments in this space will have the potential to impact thousands of patients with rare diseases for which there are currently no or limited treatment options. We are excited to expand our capabilities to deliver treatments to patients that need them the most.”

Advanced therapies spur innovations in storage and shipping

Handling highly-sensitive cell and gene therapies requires innovations in storage and shipping – needs the newly-equipped space can now meet. “Many advanced therapies require specialized handling and temperature controls through the storage and shipping process to ensure their quality, safety and efficacy,” said Joel Wayment, VP/GM, 3PL Services and Packaging Solutions. “The Advanced Therapy Innovation Center will allow us to further support manufacturers – so that patients receive the treatments that they need when they need them.”

The Advanced Therapy Innovation Center features a deep-frozen storage suite, including cryo- and ultra-low cold storage freezers to store products between -40 to -196 degrees Celsius (-40 to -320 degrees Fahrenheit.) Additionally, the space provides opportunities for collaboration and improved process design supporting the ordering, invoicing and accounts receivable process for pharmaceutical products.

Also, beginning in October, Advanced Therapy Solutions will offer Advanced Therapy Connect, a best in market unified ordering portal. This will enable customers to order all available in-network products from a single platform, reducing the administrative burden often experienced at sites of care, and simplifying the order-to-cash experience and, ultimately, preparing for the continued growth and development of these advanced therapies. Additionally, market access strategy consulting services will be offered to support advanced therapy manufacturers in the commercialization of their products.

This investment in advanced therapy storage and ordering, along with other novel solutions, positions Cardinal Health to continue to be a leader in the commercialization of cell and gene therapies. Learn more about our Advanced Therapy Solutions here.
