Cardinal Health and Operation Warm to provide coats and shoes to children in need

Columbus, Ohio (September 13, 2022) – Cardinal Health announced that it is partnering with Operation Warm, a national nonprofit that provides brand-new coats and shoes to families in need, to host two events today, September 13, to give new coats and shoes to 350 children in the Columbus area.

The Cardinal Health Foundation has purchased the coats and shoes from Operation Warm, which will be given to children on a first-come-first-serve basis at two branches of the Columbus Metropolitan Library.

With the cost of school supplies and children’s necessities on the rise, according to the latest annual back-to-school survey from Deloitte, Cardinal Health and Operation Warm are helping to ease some of the financial burdens of low-income families. The goal of the event is to ensure that underserved children are prepared for the winter months.

“Studies show that inclement weather can reduce school attendance and children’s ability to succeed,” said Jessie Cannon, vice president of Community Relations at Cardinal Health. “Every child should be warm and confident as they bundle up for school; they should never have to miss a day because they don’t have coats or shoes to protect them from the cold. By partnering with Operation Warm, we’re taking a step toward creating a community where all children have the opportunity to thrive.”

The events will be hosted at libraries in two Columbus neighborhoods where children’s needs for winter clothing are high:

  • Linden Branch
2223 Cleveland Ave., Columbus, OH 43211
    3 – 5 p.m., September 13

  • Hilltop Branch
    511 S. Hague Ave., Columbus, OH, 43204
    3 – 5 p.m., September 13

Volunteers from two of Cardinal Health’s employee resource groups (ERGs), BOLD, the ERG for Black and African American employees and allies, and ¡HOLA!, the ERG for Latinx and Hispanic employees and allies, will be on hand to distribute the coats and shoes to children.
